Lisaboa Houbrechts | Kuiperskaai | Harmonia Sacra
première française

Lisaboa Houbrechts’s new show is the opportunity of a remarkable unprecedented collaboration with musicians and singers from Harmonia Sacra. Let’s go on a journey through time with the character of Mad Meg, main character of one of the Flemish painter’s paintings.

In Bruegel, Lisbon Houbrechts paints a muti-colored portrait of Old Pierre Bruegel, as well as the one who created the character of Mad Meg – the insulted woman, called « mannish »  because she stills objects to bring them in Hell. What if she was not trying to steal them but was saving them instead ? Lisbon Houbrechts tells a story from the angle of lost objects, evidence of  troubled time in Nederlands where religious conflicts, famine and the slow coming of the Little Ice Age shake the country. An era in the shape of a tidal wave provoking a tragic leap froward.
