Scherzi Musicali | Nicolas Achten | Giulio Caccini

In 1600, librettist Ottavio Rinuccini took on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, on the occasion of Henry the 8th and Marie de’ Medici’s wedding. He wrote then the first opera in history ! The Scherzi Musicali ensemble reinterprets this musical masterpiece.

On the occasion of the royal wedding, Ottavio Rinuccini changed the original story, turning it into a happy ending. Besides, this opera counts two scores written on the same libretto by ennemies Jacopo Peri and Giulio Caccini. Caccini’s more melodic partition is the one reinterpreted by Nicolas Achten to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Scherzi Musicali. The 34-year-old musician from Brussels is a baritone, harpsichordist, harpist and ensemble director. He also worked with accordionist Didier Laloy or pop singer Kris Dane. His both learned and open-minded thinking is the promise of a legendary moment.
